It’s still possible to play CM01/02 even if you have a super modern laptop. There are many guides readily available but here are some quick tips.
If you have the CD (and your laptop has a CD drive)
This should be really easy. Install it as normal but run the game in compatibility mode. To do this, right click on the .exe icon and tick to run in compatibility mode for Windows XP (Service Pack 2).
That should fix it, just make sure you run it in Windowed mode to get the best out of the display.
An alternative is to install the patch, but this means you won’t be playing the out of the box game.
If you don’t have the CD
You can download the game, legally. It is officially freeware. The great people of Champman0102 have forums dedicated to supporting you, it really is very good.
